MUSIC UNITES PARTNERS WITH GIRLS INC. OF NEW YORK CITY, THE GIRL UP CAMPAIGN AND WOMEN IN MUSIC TO P

Non-profits joined forces to empower women through music, celebrate women’s history month and inspire New York City’s young women on March 10, 2011 at The Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum.

The Power of One event consisted of a discussion and Q&A with a special music focused panel, and performances by SRP/SRC/Universal Motown platinum recording artist Shontelle, violinist Caitlin Moe, and Deux Chattes of the Willie Mae Rock Camp for Girls.

The March 10 Power of One event was presented to allow students from NYC area schools such as: The Bronx’s Women’s Academy of Excellence, Girls Inc.’s flagship school Urban Assembly Institute of Math & Science for Young Women and Young Women’s Leadership School to meet and hear from the music industry’s top women power players who shared their experiences and insights about overcoming challenges to achieve success.

The Power of One panel featured: Singer/ songwriter/producer duo Jane’t Sewell-Ulepic and Angela Hunte, who co-wrote Jay-Z and Alicia Keys’ hit Empire State of Mind as well as having worked with many other artists including Melanie Fiona and B.o.B; philanthropist and Grammy nominated songwriter Denise Rich; and Senior Vice President of Brand Partnerships and Commercial Licensing at the Atlantic Records Group, Camille Hackney. Each of the women highlighted their successes in an effort to raise the students’ awareness of career opportunities in the music industry.
