(June 3, 2008) The Maurer Foundation for Breast Health Education held its fifth annual “Pink Diamond Ball” at The Waldorf Astoria in Manhattan with more than 1,000 guests in attendance.

The benefit raised over $1.6 million to support breast cancer prevention and early detection. Donna Hanover presided as the night’s emcee.

Singer-songwriter Sheryl Crow gave a powerful performance that had the crowd on its feet for more than an hour, singing along to the nine-time Grammy Award winner’s popular hits including “Gasoline,” “All I Wanna Do,” and “If It Makes You Happy.” Crow also shared details of her own breast cancer, calling herself the “poster child” for early detection, and lauded the important educational work of the Foundation on prevention and early detection of breast cancer.

The Foundation proudly honored Stephen J. Dannhauser, Chairman of the global law firm Weil, Gotshal & Manges LLP, who is a tireless supporter of the Foundation and its education programs. Under his leadership, the firm recently hosted a Maurer Foundation breast health program for Weil Gotshal employees, both women and men, which was simulcast to seven of the firm’s U.S. offices. According to Dannhauser, the program generated a “flood of positive responses from employees.” After receiving the Pink Diamond Ball Award, Dannhauser urged everyone to “stay involved and continue supporting the good work of The Maurer Foundation. Tonight is just the beginning.”

The Maurer Foundation is the only breast health education foundation whose mission is dedicated exclusively to the prevention and early detection of breast cancer. Through its free outreach, The Maurer Foundation has educated hundreds of thousands of individuals in community organizations and businesses such as Lehman Brothers, Pfizer, the NYPD, Chase Bank, and CosmoGirl.
